The Curly Bracket (AKA "{" ) is a one piece, minimal design glider with a whimsical, typographic aesthetic. Also looking like an open book, the design was based on fond memories of playing with stunt paper planes. These were the kind of planes not designed for speed or distance, but for the way they curved and twisted in the air.
Most of the glider is ultra-thin (0.4mm); one line width. This reduces weight and gives the wings a paper plane type feel. The back of the wings are also shaped like a curly bracket which reduces tears on the ultra-thin wings.
The front of the glider is thickened to give a stunt paper plane aesthetic. But also, it serves multiple functions. It keeps the center of gravity closer to the front. It providing a wider contact surface to the print bed to ensure a more successful print. Provides much needed stiffness in fly and during collisions. Finally, it provides a comfortable edge for your fingers to index to when throwing.
Flying the “{”

Holding it: The thick wide area is the glider's front. Behind that is a chamfered edge for your fingers. Pinch with your thumb and index finger (see photo for location). How you hold and point the glider does affect how it flies.
Throwing it: It is designed as a stunt glider. So, throwing fast and hard doesn't always produce the best results. However, since it is heavier than a paper plane, a bit extra force is needed. Tip: throw from your shoulder and elbow and not flicking your wrist (more like a basketball or a dart than a baseball or frisbee).
Honestly, it can be a bit finicky. But if done right, the glider should dip or climb or even twirl for at least 20 feet (6 meters) on a good throw. For more dramatic effects, try attaching a small binder clip somewhere on the front of one of the wings.
Assuming it's printed in rigid PLA, it's best recommended for outside use and at a safe distance from others. Great for those much needed “touch grass” sessions. So, go out and have fun!
Recommended Printing Settings
- Model Direction:

- Layer height: 0.2mm - 0.3mm
- Wall count: 3
You might need to enable “Detect thin walls” or “Arachne perimeter generator”
(Assuming a 0.4 nozzle) - Infill: 25% (but not really critical)
- Skirt/brim: Brim only should be enough
- No support material needed
- Babysit the first layer and then go enjoy a nice beverage somewhere.😁
