Some of our old shower curtain hooks broke after years of use, so instead of buying new ones, I decided to design my own.
Since I have a 3D printer, this felt like the perfect opportunity to finally create my first proper CAD model in a real CAD program.
This hook has been tested in daily use for several days now and is holding up very well so far. No cracks, no deformation, everything still looks great.
You might notice on the pictures that one of the prints has a visible seam at a highly stressed area. That was a mistake on my first print, where I manually placed the seam in the wrong spot.
For the next print, I set the seam position to random, which should theoretically distribute the stress more evenly across the part. Both versions were tested, and in my personal pull-by-hand test they felt very similar in strength.
The model was printed and tested using different nozzles, layer heights and filaments, and the overall stability was surprisingly consistent. I would not recomnend using PLA Filament, since it is not that strong. In my opinion PETG, PET, ABS and ASA all made a fantastic job
This is a simple but functional design, and I’m happy that it works as intended — especially as my first real CAD project.
