I was keen on having a smaller Snack tray for TV/Films at home.
There are some great options for snack holders on Makerworld, but for what I wanted they were either larger (great for sharing) or had food in contact directly with the plastic, which isn’t a great idea due to layer lines/difficulty cleaning.
My main inspiration came from ‘RealNationPrint’ - Picnic Friend v1 - SnackTray who integrated stainless steel insert trays into their model design. This model was very nicely designed, however was larger than I wanted (or could print on my P1S), so I set about designing a smaller version from scratch.
The Insert trays I bought to design around are:
Goalfly - 4Pcs Small Food Containers 180ml, 6 Oz Stainless Steel Food Storage Containers with Silicone Lids, Snack boxes Lunch Box for Sauce, Nuts, Fruits. - Currently 10.99 on Amazon (pack of 4)
Wakihong - 4pcs Stainless Steel Food Containers Stainless Steel Containers With Lids Meal Prep Container, for Lunch,Leftovers,Freezer Safe (1100 ml) - Currently £17.89 on Amazon (pack of 4)
I wanted something that could hold either a Mug or a Canned drink, Plus Popcorn + Sweets or potentially Tortilla ships with Salsa on the side.
I am pleased with the results (my Daughter especially loves hers).
I didn’t spend much time in making the desing fancy, but I have added in a decorative line that allows for a customisable colour to be added providing you have the ability to print with multicolour.
My one learning point - make sure you do not print a prime tower if you are limited to a P1S/P2S size. it’ll interfere with the base of the tray. My first print was imperfect as a result, but removing the print tower of subsequent prints worked perfectly!
Feel free to do what you will with the design to make it your own/improve it. I did it for me, but thought I’d share owing to lack of similar alternatives.
Good luck!
