This simple model allows the attachment of rubber wheels to a solid wood structure. A sliding gate design was more conducive for our stairwell as opposed to a hinge gate for child safety reasons. Drafting two pieces to attach to the bottom of a solid wooden gate allowed for the easy installment of wheels. The top is supported by a channel with cabinet drawer rollers to allow easy movement and direction.
Below are the McMaster Carr pieces relevant to the specific set up:
Water-Resistant Rubber Wheel with Sleeve Bearing, Gray, Soft, 2" Diameter x 7/8" Wide
1045 Carbon Steel Keyed Rotary Shaft, Fully Keyed, 5/16" Diameter, 3" Long
5/16 nut and bolt (2-¼" L)
This provided enough clearance for the Roller Wheel and secured the 3" rotary shaft with no sharp protrusions.
