A few months ago I bought some thermometers for $2, from the miscellaneous junk section of a local supermarket. I installed one outside my back door. Unsurprisingly it failed during a windy day.
I didn't want to bin it, so I made up a little bracket to repair and reinforce it. I found that the injection moulded plastic was very poor, cracking and crumbling, despite being in a sheltered spot with no sunlight.
I designed a simple plate, with a screw hole, to fit in the top of the holder. It has plenty of surface area for attachment to the weak plastic, and a large hole for a nail or screw. I used a two part epoxy to join the parts.
I treated it more as a learning exercise then a serious project, so here it is.
Printed in PLA, 3 walls, 3 top and bottom layers, 10% infill, uses 6 grams and takes 10 minutes to print on a BBL A1.
