Does the Yepp shoulder strap keep falling down? Or is your child a break-out-champ? Don't you worry. Solution is here.
I was feed up by the Yepp Harness straps which kept falling down. When my son learned himself to “wiggle” out of the strap I knew it was time to do something.
Of course, the Original and expensive 10–15-euro non-magnetic strap from Thule was a no-go. So, I present to you, unknown to mankind, a magnet embedded Thule Yepp Harness strap.
Magnets used is round 10 x 2mm (radius, height).
I made 2 versions and consist of a Male and Female part.
- The “Closed” version which requires you to disassemble the upper part of the harness.
- The “Open” version which is attachable without disassembling the harness. It is less strong than the full version.
The naming scheme refers to the attachment method of the clip – not printing time ;-).
Inserting the magnets
The print will stop 2 times, at the first pause insert the magnets in the part to the left (Female part), and to the right in the second pause. When printing the 0.15 mm version pay close attention to excessive oozing, stinging or other debris in the hole (expecially in the male part)
First pause: Insert the magnet in the female part (left) - ANY orientation
- The magnet can be inserted in any orientation.
- Resume print when you are sure that the magnet is fully inserted.
Second pause: Insert the magnet in the male part (right) – Check orientation.
- Lay the magnet on top of the now plastic covered magnet in the female part to the left - the magnet self-orientate. (Orientation check - se .gif below).
- Deligently inspect the hole in the male part for excessive oozing, stinging or other debris.
- Take the magnet from the female part, flip it 180 degrees before inserting it in the part to the right (male part).
The magnets should be fitted with EASY and MUST be fully inserted (the hole is 2.4 mm deep)! If excessive force is required or the magnet is not fully inserted -> Then check for any excess oozing, stinging or debris in the hole.

Reasoning behind design, G-code and Material
- I choose PETG and embedded magnets as the harness will be out in the environment (rain, sun etc.).
- Unfortunately, the print stop 2 times for magnet insertion, as the male clip otherwise would have become to brittle. A benefit of this is that the magnet orientation ONLY must be controlled at the second print pause.
- I’ve provided the G-code for both versions in 0.10 mm and 0.15 mm. Personally I printed it in 0.15 mm. Seems are rear-aligned and avoid crossing parameters is activated (both to improve the sliding mechanism). The G-code is optimized so the hot end initially only reaches 200 degrees centigrade (so the filament does not ooze during the bed leveling), after which it will go the printing temperature.
