Summary
Introducing RollerHead - a new kind of thing. This is a mashup of the "Ball in Vine" with a 3D scan of a friend of mine's head. Think of a RollerHead as the Bobblehead for the 3D printing generation. It definitely gives you something to do with a 3D scan besides making a statue! The head spins and glides on a table (see video here in Downloads or at http://vimeo.com/70254567). I hope someone clever can come up with a game based on these things (table top shuffleboard or curling perhaps?). You could even make teams up of your friends' heads for a competition.
Instructions
I used ReplicatorG to prepare the file, a MakerBot Replicator2 with the Replicator 2 slicing defaults and the following settings with white MakerBot PLA to do the printing:
Infill = 10%
Layer Height = 0.200
Shells = 1
Feedrate = 40
Travel Feed = 55
Temperature = 220
I used a raft with full support. Be patient removing the support structure as the clearance between the sphere, the head and the vine is pretty tight.
