Warning: Don't do this if you are not experienced with 240V projects!
To power my Home Automation project I chose to model this adaptor which is a compact, practical and nice looking solution.
Before I used old USB phone chargers to power my project, but it often led to some ugly cases or dangling cables. For this project, an ESP32 based BlueTooth scanner using ESPresense software, I realised it was possible to make my own adaptor that plugs into a socket directly. This is what I used:
- Pins from an old power plug
- HLK-5M05 power supply from AliExpress. Those are cheap, but very stable and safe.
- ESP32-C3
- Wiring
Printed in black PLA on a Prusa Mini, using supports on the bed plate. The plug pins I fixed with superglue, the ESP32 with double sided tape. If you have different plug pins you may want to alter the design slightly.
The housing isn't waterproof, but I have no trouble using it in a socket outside where it is largely covered by a roof.
