I wanted to make a Pewter version of the excellent Albert Einstein bust which was created by Lloyd Chidgzey. The PLA plastic we use in 3D printing will not withstand the high temperatures of molten Pewter (about 400 deg F). I decided to create some 3D printable files which make it easy to create a high temperature two-part mold.
The two 3D printed parts create 'reverse-molds'. Once the parts are printed, high temperature silicone can be poured directly into the printed 'reverse-molds' to create a two-part silicone direct-mold. Once the silicone is cured, the two halfs can be removed using 'break-away' walls. The two mold halfs are clamped together and liquid pewter is poured into the funnel port, while trapped air is allowed to escape thru the five air-release ports.
The printed part has provision for perfectly splitting the statue, a molten pewter pouring funnel, 5 air release points, and a retaining channel for alignment and containment. Once the pewter is cooled, light grinding and light wire-brushing were used to bring out the luster. The finished statue is
