This is version 3 of the AWACS, a plane I've come to love. Now it has a better Rotodome file such that you can print in different colors and then assemble! It's more lifelike! I printed with “organic” supports, which seems to better protect the antenna on the tail. I think printing at a larger scale would make the antenna more noticeable.
This aircraft is used for airborne surveillance, command, control, and communications. If you have to participate in an air battle, an AWACS definitely comes in handy! You see, that distinctive Rotodome provides the E-3 operators onboard a much bigger picture than any radar on a fighter jet. The E-3 provides this data to its fighters and allies to ensure everyone has situational awareness, which is always needed in such a complicated battle!
I figured the parts of the Rotodome that touch the plate might look a bit off, so I oriented the pieces such that the bottom of the Rotodome (the side you can't see from above) is looking better. The white part that is supposed to snap into the black piece? It has mixed results, but I'm sure it's from the print not the file; printing at a larger scale and/or properly smoothing the pieces might make it fit better together.
As with before, you can have it all as one piece, or you can have a moving Rotodome.
If you make a print, please post it! I'd love to see more results!
