This Christmas ornament is a variation of Ugly Ball 9 with fewer larger holes that are round. This turns Ugly Ball 12 into a display case in which you can place an object that will be fully enclosed by the ornament's shell. Just pause your 3D print part way through, drop in the object, and then continue the print.

My Ugly Ball series is a celebration of Moms everywhere who love their children enough to save the crude things they make in their youth, in this case a papier mache globe ornament that I made at five or six years old for my Mom. Over forty years later it still goes on the tree every year and has become a family heirloom. So I give you the Ugly Ball series!

3D print this thing about half or two-thirds of the way complete, pause your print, drop in an object to become trapped inside the Ugly Ball, then continue your 3D print. The result will be a beautiful display ornament with the contents visible through the array of holes.

Since this is my most popular design, I decided to modify it to work in the Thingiverse Customizer and I tested it, works great! Please note that when you change some parameters you may get an unprintable object so just tweak the sliders until it becomes printable again. This has to do with the parameters that affect the number and size of the holes.
