This enclosure was designed specifically for the combination of a Raspberry Pi 5 and the Pineboards AI Bundle (Hailo-8L + NVMe SSD adapter) under heavy load, with an active fan on both sides. I created this model because I could not find any existing enclosure — neither commercial nor printable — that properly addressed the mechanical and thermal challenges of this board combination with respect to the housing of two fans.
The stacked (“piggyback”) construction of the boards creates several problems:
insufficient airflow around the SSD
no proper fan mounting options
problematic mounting geometry
thermal issues under sustained AI workloads
In my setup, the NVMe SSD overheated under high load. This enclosure was designed to solve these issues cleanly.
Features
optimized spacing between Raspberry Pi 5 and Pineboards AI Bundle
controlled clearance to floor and side walls for airflow
dedicated fan mounting position
improved ventilation around the NVMe SSD
proper cable clearance
mechanically stable mounting
easy assembly and maintenance access
designed specifically for active cooling scenarios
The model was tested with sustained high-load AI workloads where SSD temperatures previously became problematic.
Hardware
Designed for:
Raspberry Pi 5
Pineboards AI Bundle (Hailo-8L accelerator & NVMe 2280 SSD)
Notes
I recommend active airflow for sustained AI inference workloads, especially when using fast NVMe SSDs.
STEP/source files are included so the enclosure can be modified for different fans (I'm using a standard Raspberry Pi Cooling Fan 30x30x7mm and heatsinks on the SSD).
