Fjal and other worlds under the reign of the Farw’d Althing are still prowled by dangerous mechanical wildlife, making even the mundane task of mining extremely difficult. The Miner’s Guild trains their workers to operate as well organized fighting cadres to defend themselves in the field. Similarly, the Spacer’s guild trains their crews to operate as marines to protect themselves against roving gangs of pirates and other threats of space. Every Guild maintains some amount of trained and armed soldaten amongst its workers, though theoretically all guild employees can be mobilized if then need arises.
