These are ice fishing picks - used to help someone get out of the water if they fall through the ice.

These are easy to make and are made from common materials. They will be very strong if the materials and print quality are good.

Ice fishing picks are a serious safety item. I have provided some guidelines below, but I take no responsibility for the use of these picks. Always bring ice picks and wear a PFD or float suit when on ice you're unsure of.

Materials:

• ABS or ASA filament (tough even in cold weather)
• 3" 9ga nails (framing nails)
• 6mm x 2mm magnets (available on amazon)
• Cord/Rope , diameter ≤ 5mm (paracord is a great choice)

Printing:

• 1 x Body, 1 x Body Mirror, 2 x Plug, 2 x Cap
• Make sure you're getting proper layer adhesion
• Minimum 4 perimeters and 4 top/bottom layers with 25% infill. Better safe than sorry.
• No supports are needed, and a brim is likely only necessary for the plug.

Assembly:

• Drop your nails into the bodies
• Screw down the plugs into the bodies. Slotted side up. Tighten with a flat head.
• Screw cap on top tightly by hand.
• Use super glue to get the magnets in place. Ensure attracting pairs are used between the two bodies.
• Cut a length of cord (I'd say around wingspan length), and tie off each end.

Use:

• Test them out on some ice or the ground. You'll want to double check they are solid.
• They can hang around your neck with the magnets keeping them together.
• If you were to fall through, they can give you the grip to get out.
• The exposed points can be sharp, so be aware of that
