This is a hanging shelf concept I designed around the idea of using raw filament in a different way. Instead of treating the filament just as print material, I wanted to explore it as part of the final object itself, creating a lightweight suspended structure with a clean, minimal look.
The tensioning mechanism uses a collet with an inner diameter of around 2 mm, which grips the filament and helps hold the suspended setup in place. It was designed as a concept piece and visual experiment, with a focus on structure, simplicity, and material expression.
A few people on Reddit pointed out that filament may not hold up long-term under load, which is a fair point. For a more durable setup, I’d recommend replacing the filament with something stronger like fishing line or another suitable cord material.
Files are uploaded for anyone who wants to inspect, remix, or adapt the idea for their own project. Feedback and makes are very welcome.
