Works well with official Velbon baseplates as well as some 3D-printed ones (I use this one). It's very sturdy, even without the spring with just friction. I still wouldn't trust it with anything very heavy. Use at your own risk!

Assembly is very simple. Squeeze the M5 nut to the hexagonal hole on the bottom with pliers. And apply the heated insert to the other hole on the bottom with a soldering iron.

• Spring (Couldn't find a good one online. the one in the picture is from an official Velbon tripod. However it's not strictly necessary to have one as the latch is held closed even with just friction.
