Overview
This project is a 3D printed filament storage solution designed for easy storage and transport of up to 4 filament spools. The construction is robust, modular, and features an integrated system that allows multiple units to be stacked securely on top of each other.
The design is based on standard 1 kg filament spools and works both as a storage solution and as a flexible, expandable setup for your workshop.
Design & Construction
The filament storage consists of:
2 solid side panels
2 bottom rods that support the filament spools
1 long top rod that also functions as a carry handle
The side panels include a built-in stacking system, allowing multiple units to be stacked without slipping.
All parts are printed separately and assembled after printing, making the design easy to print, transport, and further develop.
Features
Holds 4 filament spools
Stackable design
Integrated carry handle
Stable freestanding construction
Modular design
No supports required
Future Updates
A click-on top plate is currently in development.
This top plate will act as a small shelf, suitable for tools, nozzles, measuring tools, or other accessories.
The top plate will be released as a separate update.
Printing Recommendations
The design prioritizes strength and stability.
Recommended settings:
Layer height: 0.2 mm
Infill: 15–20% (Gyroid or Cubic)
Supports: not so much
PLA or similar materials are recommended.
Notes
The storage system is primarily designed for 1 kg filament spools. Smaller spools may work, but fit and stability can vary depending on spool dimensions.
