I designed a new Mini-ITX case for my Opnsense router.
This chassis is very compact. It can also accommodate an additional PCIe card and a 2.5-inch solid state drive or a regular mechanical hard drive. In my configuration, I used a pico-psu with an external power supply.
So it won't be much bigger than an ordinary router.

As for the screws, I used threaded inserts in this model.
In my case, it's...Ruthex M3
