Summary
My first build project using FreeCAD. Keeps my two most used tools
close to my 3D printer. Two strips of Velcro keep it attached.
Note: The holder matches the width of the pillar,
so take care when mounting to keep it clear of the moving platform.
FreeCAD file is included for those interested, it's messy (my first) so
I'm open to tips from you more experienced makers. Enjoy!
Instructions
Built as an exercise to help me decide which 3D modeling package
to lock in on.
I tried Blender (overkill for simple but precise modeling),
Openscad (liked almost as much as FreeCAD),
123Design and others.
I settled on FreeCAD and it seems to fit my needs best.
I made some measurements of the two tools I use the most
and just started designing. It's simple, visualize what you want,
and start building your part using primitives and Boolean operations
to create, well, anything you can imagine. Be sure to merge all your parts into one part before exporting as a mesh file (stl). Load into
your printer app (3D Print in my case), position it on it's back using "place" and Print. Modify, improve, make it your own.
