Wanted to add some flair to my wife’s GMC Yukon Denali—the engine compartment side of the hood. Open most vehicle hoods; they’re complete with an array of manufacturing holes. Some manufacturers plug these holes, whereas others do not.  In this vehicle, 2023, there are quite a few different ones; this is the larger oval. 

I carefully dimensioned each opening and modeled them up in Creo parametric. This is this first one I’ve perfected and printed. Consider it the first in the series; I’ll publish the others as time allows.

The pieces fit very well, they do require some mild persuasion to install due to the holding feature having back-draft. This was intended to prevent them falling into the moving components. 

I printed in PLA—I’ll report back on how this design/material withstands the heat within the engine bay. Since my machine doesn’t do well in other filaments, I may need to redesign.  I’m ok with a fail here and there. The image shows glow in the dark material; this is not approved by my wife but her color hasn’t arrived yet so I printed what was already in the machine
