This is a pen body + TPU grip sized to fit the pen inserts/refills for Supernote e-ink tablets. Four different shapes of TPU grips are provided, so you can choose the shape that feels best in your hand. Alternate grip shapes can also be generated using the provided OpenSCAD file.
Print as follows (tested on a Bambu P1S):
Body:
- material: PLA or PETG
- layer height: 0.2 mm
- brim: 5+ mm outer brim
- other:
- the pen top should be printed with the top surface down on the build plate
- the pen bottom can be printed with either the tip or the threaded end against the build plate, but I've had the best luck with the tip pointed down (as counterintuitive as that might seem)
- if, when printed, the opening on the pen tip is too tight or too lose, adjust the xy hole compensation in your slicer or the tip_diam parameter in the OpenSCAD file as needed for a good fit
Grips:
- material: TPU
- layer height: 0.2 mm
- brim: optional, but I've had the best luck with a 5+mm outer brim
- other:
- MAKE SURE to dry your TPU before printing!
- print grips with the angled lip oriented upward (i.e. in the orientation in the provided STLs)
- I recommend printing one grip at a time, or set the slicer to print by object rather than print by layer. Otherwise, any stringing in the TPU will substantially degrade the surface quality of the finished grips.
Once printed, assemble as follows:
- slide chosen grip over the bottom piece of the pen, with the angled lip on the bottom
- insert the Supernote pen refill into the bottom piece of the pen
- screw the top piece of the pen onto the bottom piece
- enjoy using your new pen with your Supernote!
If you wish to tweak the design of the pen, the provided OpenSCAD file allows you to change:
- length of the pen
- outer diameter of the pen
- length of the grip
- thickness of the grip
- whether the grip has ridges or not
- how many ridges/oscillations the grip has
- overall profile of the grip (flat, bulge in the middle, indent, etc.)
Note that to run the OpenSCAD file, you will need to download the threads.scad file from https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1686322 and place it in the same folder.
Other:
I may eventually extend this OpenSCAD file to be able to take other pen inserts/ballpoint pen refills, but it may take me a while to get to it - feel free to remix if you want this option sooner!
