Description
The original wheel on my Roomba had its splined hub stripped, so I designed and printed this replacement. The wheel disc is printed in PETG, and the tire is printed separately in FLEX and then assembled. The original parts have metallic hubs, while this model fits plastic on the original splined shaft. I left the fit pretty tight plus you can drop a little glue from the top side of the wheel for extra security. I've had mine installed for only a few days, so I don't yet know about durability. At worst, it will serve as a temporary spare until a genuine wheel arrives — but if it lasts, I’ll probably just keep reprinting it when needed.
Although the FLEX tire works well, it’s less grippy than the original rubber tire, so traction isn’t quite the same — especially on smooth floors. Still, it’s a solid replacement that fits and runs fine.
⚠ Note: While the wheel and tire look the same as the original part and share its dimensions, the interface between them is my own design. I wasn’t able to separate the original tire without damaging it, so I recreated a new fit instead. As a result, these parts work together, but neither one alone is a drop-in replacement for the OEM wheel or tire. Mind you, the factory replacement comes as a full unit with a new swing arm and motor, there's no buying just the wheel.
Printing
- The parts are designed to print without supports.
- Printing with a 0.4-mm nozzle in 0.2-mm layers is completely fine.
- The design relies on pushing the printed hub on the splined shift with considerable force, so the plastic must be willing to give. Choose PETG over PLA for that. I have not tried with PLA but I would not recommend it.
- For the tires use the grippiest substance you have.
