Summary
Gyroid in a Sphere, G-sphere
August 27, 2022 witnessed the installation of a 5-foot Gyroid, in the shape of sphere, at Morris Library at SIU. It is a beautiful piece of art and math, but "a little" too big to hold in a hand. So I went ahead and made a classroom version to capture the main idea behind the big guy! It requires gentle support to print. The voronoi model takes much longer to print but looks great after cleanup.

Notes:
Please use support plus a raft. When using automatic support, please remove the support inside the gyroid, making sure the edges are supported. It might take a few experiments to get it right, depending on the printer. Also, please leave enough space between support and model (0.30mm in my case). It is helpful to rotate the model slightly to minimize support.
