Update 2023-06-15: Added a ‘tolerance' parameter to make your holders easier (or harder) to fit into your wall.
Most of the things I wanted to store on my Honeycomb Storage Wall seem to be things that want to drop into a ring, so I've made a model that can be adapted to whatever size I need.
To use this for your own sized items, you'll need to:
- Save ring.scad, and make sure that hex plug library.scad is in its parent folder. If you download and extract the zip file, that'll happen automatically.
- Open ring.scad in OpenSCAD
- Make sure the Customizer is open (if it's not, untick Window→Hide Customizer) and play with the numbers and sliders until you get what you want.
If you rename the file ring.json.txt to ring.json, you'll get some preset values that match the .stl files I've uploaded, so you can see how it works.
One of the options is to include a little break in the model — my model called ‘yeast tin’ illustrates why you'd do that. The tin that I'm keeping tweezers in has a lip on the bottom as well as the top, so there's no way to slide a solid ring round it. So by setting breakWidth to a small value, you can open up the ring to get the tin in. On my Ender 3 with a 6mm nozzle, I set that to 0.2mm and needed to use a craft knife to get it apart.
(And I realise that the model is very specific and unlikely to be of use to you, but I include it as a hopefully useful example…)
There's also a little clip that you can use to keep the ring closed if you do print it with a gap in it. It's not very strong though, so only use it while you're deciding whether you like it. If you do, then you can superglue it closed.
