Summary
My lift system for R2D2 dome. After building the dome from MrBaddeley I started to search for a good lift system to use with the periscope and the life scanner, but found nothing that satisfied me, so I designed one by myself.
The whole thing seems to work fine, so now I am sharing it with everyone.
To make a complete system you need to print:
- 1 top ring
- 4 screws
- 2 lifts
- 2 bases
- 2 gears
- 2 end switches
- 2 left bars with spacers
- 2 right bars with spacers
Anyway if you just wish to use one lift of course there is no problem...

All the parts are already rotated to be printed. Some parts need support and some parts need high infill. I also suggest at least 3 perimeters to make the parts a bit stronger.
Please note that you need to print 2 screws for every lift and it should be way better to print all of them at the same time. These are slim and tall objects, so if you print just one you can have issues at the top. Also you should print them SLOWLY.
For the screws and the lifts I suggest a resolution of 0.2 to make them slide better. Evvery other part could be printed at 0.3 without issues.
Post-Printing
After printing, check if everything fits. The lift part and the screws have high tollerance, but I suggest you to sand the crews a bit to make them smooth.
Glue the bars to the top ring (if using ABS you can use acetone), but do not glue them to the base as you may need to disassemble the system in order to replace some part.
You have a top support for a micro switch, but I did not create one for the bottom as you should check where to place it dependong on the switch itself (I just used hot glue to place mine in the right place).
To glue the top ring to the dome use something really strong as the whole system is a bit heavy. Again you can use acetone welding if printed in ABS
