The tie is made in two sections, a “top” and a “bottom,” and 4 link pieces to connect them which are one of the scales but sliced in half. Print one top, one bottom (choose your length) and 4 sets of links.
You will need to glue the link pieces. It's a little challenging to get the links to mesh with the rest of the scales, but it's not too hard.
Some tips: start with the sections facing down towards a table, bring them together and dry run the gluing process without the glue with all four links, push the links together in both axes before gluing, avoid adding too much glue. It's better to add too little to prevent adjacent links from getting stuck to each other, use tweezers! If done right, the seam will be virtually invisible.
I used a blue lanyard that I cut and fed through the slit in the “knot” part of the tie. I used safety pins to set the circumference and the clasp to quickly put it on and take it off. Any fabric will probably work
