Tactical PETG Bottle Carrier
Overview
This is a 3D-printable, two-stage bottle holder designed for quick-release carry on a belt or MOLLE strap. The system utilizes a modified Side Release Buckle (Fastener) mechanism, specifically optimized for the mechanical properties of PETG filament.
Design Components
1. Female Part (Belt Clip / Mount)
Function: Stays fixed on the belt or webbing.
Features: Features a heavy-duty loop for belts (up to 40mm) and internal side-windows for the buckle teeth to snap into.
Reinforcement: The housing is thickened to prevent "bulging" when the male part is inserted under tension.
2. Male Part (Bottle Holder / Hook)
Spring-loaded Arms: Extra-long "fingers" designed for maximum flexibility. They utilize the elastic deformation range of PETG to provide a tactile "click" without snapping.
Central Guide Rail: A middle pillar that prevents lateral wobbling and ensures a smooth, straight insertion even when doing it blindly.
Bottle Ring: A flexible, C-shaped ring with a small gap (2–4mm). This allows the ring to expand over the bottle neck and snap securely under the safety ring of any standard PET bottle (0.5L – 2.0L).
Material Selection: Why PETG?
While PLA is too brittle and Nylon is difficult to print, PETG is the "Goldilocks" material for this project:
Ductility: It can withstand thousands of "click" cycles without fatigue.
UV & Heat Resistance: Unlike PLA, it won't warp or lose grip if left inside a hot car or under direct sunlight.
Impact Strength: It absorbs shocks while walking or running, preventing the bottle from snapping off.
Technical Specifications & Print Settings
Recommended Print Parameters:
Orientation: Print both parts flat on the build plate (lying down). This ensures layer lines run along the length of the spring arms, providing maximum tensile strength.
Wall Line Count: 4 – 6 perimeters. Crucial: You want the spring arms to be 100% walls with no infill for maximum durability.
Infill: 40% (Gyroid) or 100%.
Layer Height: 0.2mm for a good balance between speed and detail.
Cooling Fan: 20% – 30%. Lower cooling improves layer adhesion (strength), but a little fan is needed for the buckle's overhangs.
Tolerance & Assembly:
Clearance: The model is designed with a 0.4mm – 0.6mm gap between the male and female parts to account for PETG's slight "oozing" and ensure a smooth fit.
Post-Processing: If the fit is too tight, a tiny drop of silicone lubricant or mineral oil on the friction surfaces will make the mechanism work butter-smooth.
Key Features
Tool-less Attachment: The C-ring allows you to snap the holder onto a bottle without unscrewing the cap.
One-Handed Operation: Ergonomically designed side-buttons for quick hydration access.
Field-Tested Geometry: Reinforced "neck" transition to prevent snapping at the highest stress point.
