! THIS IS NOT A FULLY TESTED DESIGN! IN ITS CURRENT STATE IT DOES NOT REPLACE A CONVENTIONAL PROFESSIONALLY MADE SHIELD! THIS DESIGN SHOULD NOT BE USED AS A PERMANENT REPLACEMENT FOR SUCH WITHOUT PROPER TESTING AND MODIFICATION! I DO NOT TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR ANY DAMAGE CAUSED BY ABOVE DESCRIBED USE !
I have recently bought a Dragunov SVD with a PSO-1M2 scope for airsofting, and while checking off the usual list of safety gear I noticed a lack of shielding for the scope lens from direct hits.
While looking online many have just suggested taping a piece of acrylic to the sunshade tube, and while it can work, it's clearly not aesthetic enough.
And so I have gone ahead and designed a mount for a 32 mm diameter acrylic disc to go on the business end of your PSO-1 / PSO-1M2 sunshade in the form of a cap.
Designed with about .1mm clearance from the sunshade's outside wall.
Results may vary depending on the thickness of paint on your sunshade and you may need to sand the inner wall of the print down a little for it to fit.
Do keep in mind that this design has not been tested in an actual airsofting environment yet.
Updated to V2:
The original was a bit too short for my liking and lacked the pazazz of excessive chamfering, on top of that the spot for the shield was moved back a bit to add a touch of depth to the cover and possibly reduce sun glare.
Updated to V3:
Adjusted a few dimensions:
- +0.5mm to clearance
- -5mm to length
- +~1mm to wall thickness
Chamfers adjusted
Final update:
- Added a 6mm thick honeycomb pattern disk to go into the tube (snug fit)
