I have designed a trophy for the SD Printing Industry Awards competition.

This design is called ‘Rising Star’

This trophy balances showing off the wonders that 3D printing can produce and the aesthetic appeal that a trophy should have. There are multiple examples of overhangs and techniques which would otherwise be difficult or even impossible to create with other manufacturing techniques. This trophy design is inspired by a trophy awarded to my mother with similar shapes of octagons and trapeziums used. To further this idea, the outside feature of both the base and the main body revolve around a central core similar to how a mother protects her child. This is consistent all the way until the top of the trophy where we see the core emerge from the comfort of its protective walls which represents the process that all children must go through.

The trophy can be printed in two parts; the base and the main body. These can be attached by a simply slide in and twist mechanism.

To comply with contest guidelines, the trophy base will be printed using metal binder jet printing and has dimensions less than 45 X 45 X 45 mm and the trophy main body can be printed using SLS 3D printing with dimensions greater than 75 X 75 X 75 mm and less than 125 X 125 X 125 mm.
