- IMPORTANT NOTE - I haven't printed all of them yet. I have only printed those shown in the pictures. But they are at the level where I want to print them, I'm just waiting on my filament order.
This is my take on monster card storage boxes for the game Kingdom Death: Monster. What I find unique is the integral trays for separating the cards while stored. These trays can then be used as draw / discard pile holders when playing the showdown.
CARD TRAYS - Each monster has two or more card trays. In general Quarry monsters have three and Nemesis monsters have two. With some exceptions like the Red Witches.
These trays are sized based on Paladin card sleeves and the number of cards that go in them. Please note I did not size them for cards that come with the expansion but can be stored with other like cards, such as Disorders, Secret Fighting Arts, Tactics, etc. The trays are basically designed to store AI, Hit Location, and Resource / Hunt cards. Extra cards that are only used when that monster is in your campaign are stored with Hit Location cards. For example, some monsters have innovation cards, etc.
Since the trays are sized for the cards they store, they have extruded text on the bottom so you can always know which monster and which type of card it holds. (AI, Hit Location, and Resource / Hunt cards). This text will not show up unless multi-color printing is used as it is only .01 mm or something really small.
MAGNETS - These are optional, but I find it quite nice. The trays are designed with spaces for magnets to be inserted. They are 4mm diameter x 2mm high cylinder magnets. The box covers have two spaces for magnets as well which when done right hold the covers on very well.
While you can have the magnets face the same direction, I recommend the two magnets sharing a wall face opposite directions. This makes so the trays can attach in any direction. Come up with a system and test it before inserting all of them.
I ended up having to glue the magnets as they will eventually pop out over time.
PRINTING - What's shown in the pictures was printed on a Prusa XL with two toolheads, one with Prusament Galaxy black and the other with Prusament Marbled Grey. Print settings, 0.4mm nozzle, 0.2mm layer height.
Also note the pictures are a lot lighter because my phone auto adjusted exposure. In real life they are much darker.
I'm certainly no 3D printing expert, but the Prusa is a solid printer so I designed these with fairly tight tolerances. My prints come out about 0.15 mm smaller than modeled. I don't even know if my cheap calipers can measure that accurately. So I apologize if things do not fit when printed.
FILES - I uploaded the White Lion box and trays so you can see them. If you want the full sets they are zipped the OTHER FILES section grouped by Core Monsters, Expansion Monsters, and GCE Monsters.
I added a sample .3mf file to illustrate how I got the best results on the multicolor recessed text on the covers. Hopefully it is useful.
Please verify that they will fit your cards if you use something other than Paladin card sleeves.
