Vortex Fruit and Vegetable Cleaning Machine
The person who designed this device clearly had a great deal of engineering ingenuity and creativity. Although I don't know who the original designer was, one thing is certain - this is definitely a very ingenious idea. Nowadays, dozens or even hundreds of similar fruit and vegetable washing machines can be found online. I've carefully studied many 3D models and was eager to print one myself, but as usual, I noticed some design details during my browsing that didn't seem to have been carefully considered. So, I decided to create a more satisfactory version myself, as I often do.
I'm very satisfied with the final product. To help everyone better understand the working principle of this cleaning machine, I've also recorded a short demonstration video.
Printing tips
At first, I planned to use PETG material for printing, but at that time, the AMS was already full of white and yellow-green PLA consumables - so I just chose these two materials. At least in my opinion, the combination effect is quite good. To be honest, I have a special fondness for white and green, so this choice seemed particularly natural this time.








The printing process went very smoothly, and the tree-like support structure firmly held the load-bearing structure at the bottom. However, I want to remind everyone that the support density in my 3MF file is quite high. If you don't like this design, you can adjust it according to your own needs. In the video, you can see that I gave the surface of the hand a light sanding - although it's not the most meticulous work, it's more than enough for such a functional and practical tool.
Design highlights
From an engineering perspective, the slope of the inlet channel is quite steep - it is this design that allows the water flow to maintain a strong momentum under moderate water pressure. Despite the diameter of the washing bowl reaching 19 centimeters, the vortex effect is still strong and powerful, capable of efficiently spinning fruits and vegetables to achieve thorough rinsing.
There is a key detail: the central drainage pipe. Many similar designs I've seen seal the top of the pipe - but I think this design actually has some flaws. My design intentionally leaves the top of the pipe open and slightly below the groove on the outside of the cleaning bowl. In this way, the water flow will carry small impurities and particles towards the center during rotation, and finally directly into the sink. Summer has arrived, and autumn is also approaching quietly—it's the harvest season for berries, fruits, jams, and various vitamin-rich dried fruits. When all kinds of fruits and vegetables are fresh, juicy, and fully ripe, such a washing machine can undoubtedly come in very handy. I believe many friends will be as fond of it as I am. For me, the most enjoyable thing is to make jam by hand—and a thorough, clean washing is the starting point of all this deliciousness.
