Replacement for the drawer tray in the IKEA Elloven.

Why?

• The original tray is not very flat and is not square at all, which is a problem if you want to put grid-based organizers in it.
• Several precious milimeters are lost to the bottom of the original try due to its geometry. It sounds like a minor thing, but given how little height there is to begin with, it really makes a difference.
• The original try has some fixed separators that get in the way of other organization systems you may want to use.
• The original handle design, while convenient for many purposes, can get in the way of certain organizers.

Bill of materials

• 2x FHCS M4x16
• 2x Heat set insert for M4, OD 6.3mm. I used CNCKitchen inserts.

Printing

Warping is a major concern for a print like this, so PLA is recommended.

Print with a brim (again, to combat warping).

I printed it on a x1c with the High Temperature Plate.

Assembly

The tray pieces are designed to be friction fit together with a hammer without glue.

Strength

Once hammered in, the parts shouldn't come apart. It is possible for the parts to angle slightly with respect to each other if the tray is loaded and the tray is held at the left or right sides. This is not a problem in normal operation since the tray is on a rail. It could potentially be fixed with solvent glue, or brackets (if they don't interfere with your particular usage of the tray), but it hasn't been enough of a problem for me.
