I wanted something to put into the window to promote the #chasetherainbow campaign during the Coronavirus pandemic but rather than print an actual rainbow, wanted to use lengths of filament.
I have amended the nuage file, adding three pins which match holes in my joiner and holder pieces - you can use CA glue if needs be but my model held together without.
The location holes in the joiner and holder pieces are 3mm diameter as are the holes in the holder which take lengths of coloured filament.
Post-Printing
Finishing off
Use a 3mm drill bit to clear out any plastic in the holder and joiner pieces and also to make it a genuine 3mm hole to take the plastic pins which are printed as part of each cloud.
Snap everything together and then use 2.85mm (3mm) filament to make up each of the 7 rainbow colours. (You can use fewer that this if you are struggling to find the right colours).Depending on the curve/bend of your filament pieces, the rainbow may not be as perfect as you perhaps wish but hey - this makes it unique! The amount of curve depends on where on the reel you took each piece from of course - if anybody can suggest a way of straightening these out, I would love to hear it. (Tried a hot air gun but wasn't successful).
