I’ve adapted this excellent trim wheel assembly to make it screw-mountable for improved durability and ease of repair.

When I incorporated the original design into my flight sim controls, I accidentally broke the pieces holding the wheel between the bearings by hitting it with my chair’s armrest. Repairing it required ungluing everything, which was both time-consuming and inefficient.

To solve this, I modified the design to allow mounting with screws. When printing the faces, be sure to add a pause at 7.6 mm (assuming a 0.2 mm layer height) to insert 6 x M4 nuts. The recommended screws are M4 x12 but it should work with M4x10 to M4x15 (or longer, with some washers added).

Additionally, I created a version that allows for dual-color text without requiring a multicolor printer. For the “Take Off” text, you can switch filament colors when printing the faceplate. Then you can print the text plates separately, by changing the filament once. These plates can then be attached to the faceplate, eliminating the need for markers or specialized printers.
