The Creality multi-KG spool holder is a nice accessory for 3KG and 5KG spools, however the roller bar spins too freely causing large amount of filament to unwind.  There have been other mods that aim to add “brakes” to the spool but I did not find the result satisfactory.

This mod replace the roller bar that comes with the spool holder.

Slicer

Print vertically on the plate, rim is not necessary but may help if there is adhesion problem.  40% infill, gyroid or grid, 3 to 4 walls.

Material

I used ABS for strength, but should work with any filament.

• M5 brass insert x2
• M5x12mm buttonhead or sockethead screws x2

Assembly and usage

Install the brass inserts flush on both ends.  Screw in the screws.  Install on the spool holder replacing the factory roller.  Use the screws to adjust the tension.  Use Loctite blue to set the screws if desired, I did not find it necessary though.
