After years of agonizing, I finally went "all in" and spent a few dollars and a few grams to make some spool holders. With a couple dual material printers and one 5 material printer.... Things were getting out of hand.
After printing out 10 sets of Loco's Wall-mount spool holders, I thought I would make my own wall mount block - I used bolts instead of threaded rod/nuts, and wanted to eliminate the lock nuts altogether.
Finally, since I need to mount multiple spools near each other, I made a 210 mm guide (with weighted bottom) since I end up needing to install a bunch of sheetrock anchors.
NOTE: I was using Ikea bolts to mount to the wall, so the holes are a little tight for #8 hardware. There's now an "ISO" version which has those holes a little looser for larger hardware, without effecting the snug fit of the main bolt.

Print the mounts standing up, and the guide laying down. They should load in correctly.
If you dislike the tightness of the mount, you can print with a little horizontal compensation. A fraction of a mm should make it plenty loose, but see below: It's tight on purpose.Post-Printing
Notes on Assembly/usage
Mounts:
The mounts are printed pretty tight, in order to better grip/control the bolt shaft. Mine needed a light tapping with a hammer to insert, but feel great afterwards. Note that the bolts sit just inside of the chamfer, not even with the surface, so be sure to full insert them or a spool could loosen in use.
Jig:
I'm printing this now, so it's untested. In theory, a push pin in the middle should be all you need. The guide is already 5mm clearance all around for a 200 mm spool, and it should hang vertical negating the need for a level (one could argue OCD isn't a "need").
If it's not enough, you can run an M3 bolt into the hole on the bottom to weight it further, and put a bunch of washers/nuts on the shaft for more.
Once it's hanging where you like, pen-or-pin mark the wall for the three holes, remove the jig by pulling the pin and carry on.
