DCC-EX is a team of dedicated enthusiasts producing open source DCC & DC solutions for you to run your complete model railroad layout. Our easy to use, do-it-yourself, and free open source products run on off-the-shelf Arduino and our custom technology and are supported by numerous third party hardware and apps like JMRI, Engine Driver, wiThrottle, Rocrail and more.
This is a full case for the EX-CSB1 Command Station Booster consisting of a bottom to hold the PCB and a top cover that snaps on to protect the board. The bottom has tabs to hold the PCB so no screws are required, but you may want to use M2 self-threading or machine screws to firmly hold the board if you are going to do a lot of cable plugging and unplugging. The top snap fits onto the bottom and has cooling holes and an opening for the 1.3" OLED display.
There are 2 versions of both the top and the bottom:
- Bottom with tabs for M3 screws to mount using spacers to the layout
- Bottom without tabs for sitting on a surface without mounting
- Short Top for EX-CSB1 with 1.3" OLED display
- Tall Top for EX-CSB1 with stacked EX-MotorShield 8874 and 1.3" OLED Display (coming January 2025)
The standard EX-CSB1 will need either bottom and the short top. If you stack an EX-MotorShield 8874, you will need either bottom and the tall top.
WARNING: Be aware of potential cooling issues if you run currents above 2A with an enclosure. We recommend using a few washers or a rubber grommet as spacers if you mount the case to a surface. Obviously, the bottom cooling vents will be blocked if you do not leave space. You may want to mount a small fan onto the top vent holes for added cooling. You can power the fan from the 3.3V or 5V provided by the EX-CSB1.
The version of this carrier / sled sold with the EX-CSB1 is manufactured at a production facility in SLA and has a sanded finish.
There is a version with labels on the ports, but because of the size of the case, only SLA (resin) printers have the resolution to print them. This can be enabled in the original Fusion 360 file by un-suppressing the labels. We will try to publish the Fusion file here and/or our Github.
