This model is a second version of the previous cane rest I made. It is more robust but also a little harder to assemble. Friend I made the first one for said that if they dropped their cane, it would sometimes twist apart, just as clothespins can do. This new one has proven more resilient.
The hardware it's designed for is a flat head M3x20mm bolt (threads into the plastic of one of the clip halves), this very grippy weather-stripping from Lowes, and the spring from one of these clips I found at the local Dollar Tree. The cane this clip was made for is 22mm in diameter and you want a fit such that it can slide easily to adjust to the height of the various tables you're resting it on, but still stays in place. A STEP version of the model is included to facilitate adaptation to other sizes or other hardware.
The design is self-supporting via bridging and I found the tolerances even without adding any clearance to the model were just about perfect on my Bambu Labs P1S. A little light sanding should be all that is required if they are a little tight on other printers. I had good luck with PETG using 4 0.6mm walls and a 0.2mm layer height from a 0.4mm nozzle.

Drill or file the pin holding the spring to remove it. A vise helps.

Only a small amount is required. It's two P-shaped strips joined together that are meant to be peeled apart, but keep them together for this clip.
Assembly instructions:
1) After printing, twist the two clip halves apart and trim any support threads with some nippers. You might have to get a few inside the interior groove with a utility knife.
2) Test the fit of the two clip halves. If too tight vertically, the sides of the clip will not be flush, but rubbing them along some sandpaper should easily fix this. Be gentle, as very little material needs to be removed. Similarly, if the parts are too tight for the bolt holes to line up, sand their faces. Since this is intended to withstand being dropped, try not to remove too much so that the clip halves remain in good contact but the hinge is still easy to move.
3) Insert the M3x20mm bolt into the clip halves to clear any support filament away, but do not thread the bolt into the small clip hole yet. 3D printed parts that are threaded into should ideally not have the bolt ever removed.
4) To insert the spring, I found using a drinking straw helped enormously. First put the spring on a nail to prevent it flying off and put one end of the nail in a vise and angle the spring so one arm is against a vise jaw. Then bend the other spring arm towards the first, and put the straw over the ends to constrain them.
Place the coil of the spring into the gap created by the clip halves when assembled and then insert the M3 bolt to go through it. Then thread the bolt into the clip to retain it permanently. The clip is sized around a length of 20mm so you should be able to get the bolt head flush. Just yank on the straw to remove it, it'll probably tear the end a little, but that part can be trimmed if assembling more than one clip.
5) Cut the end of the weather-stripping square and insert it into a clip end and mark where to trim it to length. After cutting, do not peel the two strip halves apart but instead bend them into a 90 (see picture below) and press them into place after removing the backing paper. I found using the weather-stripping this way improved grip and the ability to conform to surfaces. Repeat for the other side of the clip.
