These boring bar organizers allow for easy organization of machine-shop boring bars (and internal threading tools) ranging from 130mm to 210mm (about 4" to 8") in length. They are stackable, and designed to be fairly universal in their ability to accept similar-but-different boring bars.
I have a modest home-shop that includes a small machine-shop with a mill and a lathe. As I slowly convert the whole space to Gridfinity storage, I wasn't able to find any organizers that fit my boring bars well, so I made these. The bins are a dit deeper than they probably need to be to allow for stackability. I've left a little bit of room for tool mounting at the pointy-end of the boring bar, and have included finger-reliefs to make things easier to get out.
I have NOT included magnet holes in the gridfinity base, because I didn't want them: magnets are … not helpful… in a machine shop full of ferrous chips.
There are FOUR models, and I've included F3D, STL, and 3MF files of each. I'm new to this, but hopefully that gives folks enough to be able to modify these if they'd like.
The four bins are as follows:
- LARGE (2x6 grids)
Has capacity for:
1x 210mm (8") boring bar (Slot is 17mm diam.)
1x 185mm (7") boring bar (Slot is 14mm diam.)
- MEDIUM (2x4 grids) - Option 1
Has capacity for:
3x 155mm (6") boring bars (Slot is 13mm diam.)
- MEDIUM (2x4 grids) - Option 2
Has capacity for:
4x 130mm (5") boring bars (Slot is 11mm diam.)
- SMALL (1x3 grids)
Has capacity for:
2x 130mm (4") boring bars (Slot is 10mm diam.)
These printed just fine in PLA on a Bambu P1S, with 15% infill. I am not a printing expert by any means, but I have no reason to think they would be a problem in any other material, or with reduced infill. The geometry is dead-simple, and the only overhang is from the gridfinity grid pattern itself.
Please be kind to me. These are some of the first things I have ever modelled in Fusion, and I have literally just been googling and YouTubing instructions as I go. I may be a “professional” but definitely NOT in the world of CAD modelling and 3D printing.
