The Latch is made to stick out just a tad more than the part I remixed it from. And I'm pleased to say it does and holds the hatch better!

If you download the timber hatch and print it this will fit it just like the one that's supposed to.  Be careful installing it as it's fragile so gentle fitting is required.  Print it laying on its side to add strength to the latching tab.  I printed it with a brim.
