I'm fairly new to 3D design and printing.  I'm teaching a class on Engineering Design and Applications.  I moved into this job after teaching English for 14 years.  There has been quite the learning curve, but I'm still having fun and the kids seem to enjoy this more than writing the same essays over and over. As I have a new classroom now, I wanted a small pencil/pen/marker holder to put on my desk or stick to a wall. My students like to borrow my sharpies and don't always remember to return them.  This makes it very obvious if one is missing!

I was inspired mostly by honeycomb shapes and the visually pleasing way they connect.  This was designed in Onshape, with the idea of making a nicely connected design that would have a flat “back” face to apply double stick tape or adhesive hook and loop to fasten it to the board.    This necessitated making two little extensions off the back, these are wide enough for a pair of scissors to be placed with the tips of the blades facing down.

I printed it on my Elegoo Neptune 2 printer using Dikale luminous green filament.  The last photo shows it printing with a black-light. I'm sure other colors would look good too, but I happened to have this filament on the printer when the idea came to me so that's what it got made with.

I used the stock settings for “Normal” in cura. 

0.15mm layer height

10% Tri-Hexagon infill (keeping with the hexagon theme!)

No support necessary, though a brim at the bottom might make it more stable on a glass bed.  (I just upgraded my bed to a magnetically attached PEI coated spring steel plate and it is SO NICE!)
