Summary
This is a "melting disco ball" sculpture. I first modeled a soft body collision in Blender, exported the shape, split it in half and printed both sides. I then glued them together (after cutting a hole and adding something heavy to the back of both halves) and then covered in small mirrors. Looks great when the afternoon sun hits it.
There are 3 STL files but you only need to print the A and B sides. The other file is a full blob in case you want to split it yourself into more than 2 parts.

I printed this with 3 shells and a 15% lightning infill. Imperfections are evident in the finished part but since it'll be covered in mirrors it doesn't matter too much. If you are more patient than me, increase the resolution and add more infill.

Assembling the full piece
You will need to glue both halves together but I recommend that you cut a hole on the mating faces first and add something heavy to the back of each half. Make sure to glue the heavy things in place. This is so that the final piece stays put and doesn't slide off the edge. Once the mirrors are added they weigh it down significantly.
Optional: color the blob
You may want to print the piece in grey or metallic silver. You can also spray paint it silver. I printed it in white and didn't paint it. It doesn't look very good when first adding the mirrors, but when you're done you can hardly notice, and I actually like the white background. A lot of disco balls are white underneath anyway.
Adding the mirrors
I ordered 3000 of these mirrors. 3000 is probably many more than you'll need, I think 1500 is probably enough.
- Start by adding one square where you want the pattern to start. I chose a point straddling the center line, about 25º from the horizontal plane so that the other end would be on the underside of the blob.
- Add 6 more tiles in a hexagonal pattern around the center tile. They will not touch the center tile because... geometry. Doesn't look great at first.
- Add a circular layer of tiles around the hexagonal one. It's very important for the first few layers to be as neat as possible, any imperfection in the shape of the circle of mirrors will compound as you add more layers.
- Continue adding layers until you're done, following the shape of the blob.
A note on cutting mirrors: you will 100% need to cut some of the mirrors to complete the layers neatly, otherwise there will be blank gaps where you can't fit a tile. You can shuffle tiles around to minimize this gap but it is not efficient or fun. I used a glass cutting tool like this one to score the mirror and a pair of pliers to snap the tile in two. It worked pretty well after a couple of utterly shattered tiny mirrors (I was gripping too hard). The cuts also don't have to be super precise for the final product to look good.
A note on the underside: it'll get a little chaotic towards the end, you'll need to cut a lot more pieces and stick them in awkward positions. It's ok, it'll look fine at the end and you'll probably never see the underside anyway.
