This is a slot hook for attaching slotted DIN rails to slotted wall strip shelving systems. I primarily designed it for a particular wall strip system, but made it parametric so it should work for any system that uses slots for mounting things. It is designed to be small and simple so it prints fast and doesn't use much material.
I made it for my workspace tool rack. I use the Flex Storage Doubleslot System (from Bunnings) as the base wall attachment with accessories for shelves, pegboards (using my Sy's Peglock Improved and Parametric) tote board, baskets etc. This adds DIN rails that I can use with my Sy's Peglock - DIN Rail Attachment for tool holders. Updates!
The v1.2.0 version I initially release proved not strong enough (in PLA) when my rails were heavily loaded even with 100% infill. The v1.4.0 increases the DIN Rail catch thickness from 3mm to the full width of the DIN Rail mounting slot (4.5mm) and increased the slot height from 16mm to 17.5mm which still fits nicely and gives a wider slot hook to make it stronger. So far so good (in 100% infill PLA+), but if this turns out still to be insufficient I'll release a redesign with multiple hooks.
Printing
There is uploaded stl (v1.2.0) and 3mf (v1.4.0) files for the recommended configuration for the Flex Storage Doubleslot System which has a 17.5mm high, 3mm wide wall slot (32mm Pitch). The naming of the files is in the form “DIN Rail Hook v<version> <DIN Rail Thickness>-<Slot Width>-<Slot Height>-<Slot Thickness>-<DIN Rail Gap>.stl” and “DIN Rail Hook v<version> <DIN Rail Thickness>-<DIN Rail Slot>-<Slot Width>-<Slot Height>-<Slot Thickness>-<DIN Rail Gap>.3mf”
It doesn't require any raft/brim/supports and prints fine using default “fast” printer settings with 0.3mm layers, and I recommend 100% infill for strength. On my Flashforge Adventurer 3 it prints in 5mins.
Usage
To use it, find DIN rail slot positions that align with two (or more) wall slots. Insert the hooks sideways into the DIN rail slots at those positions and twist vertical to lock them in place. Push the hooks into the wall slots and slide them down to lock them into place. It should give a good solid attachment with no wiggling.
Customizing
If you have special requirements you can generate your own models. Modifying and exporting this model doesn't require you to sign up for any accounts or download any software. Just follow these instructions below!
Parameters
Currently there are 5 parameters that are adjustable, but let me know if you need anything else to be adjustable and I can update it! The defaults all match the Flex Storage Doubleslot System.
- DIN Rail Thickness - How thick the DIN Rail metal is. I think the default of 1mm is standard, but there may be thicker variants. This can made smaller/larger to grip the DIN Rail tighter/looser.
- DIN Rail Slot - How wide the mounting slot in the DIN rail is. The default is 4.5mm which seems about standard and should work OK for wider slots.
- Slot Width - the width of wall slot. The default is 3mm.
- Slot Height - The height of the wall slot. The default is 17.5mm. This is usually about ½ the “pitch” of the wall slot system or a little larger.
- Slot Thickness - How thick the wall slot metal is. The default is 1mm. This can be made larger/smaller to grip the wall slot tighter/looser.
- DIN Rail Gap - How far off the wall slot the DIN Rail sits. The default is 3mm, which gives a strong “lip” that helps prevent the DIN rail rotating upwards in the slot. Setting this higher/lower will increase/decrease how far out the DIN rail sits. It can be set to 0mm to put the rail flush against the wall slot, but this removes the “lip” entirely and may require adjusting the “Slot Thickness” to ensure it grips the wall slot securely.
Directions
- Navigate to the OnShape Document.
- Go to the DIN Rail Slot Hook tab and change the parameters for the DIN Rail Attachment as needed (note, the new v1.4+ version includes DIN Rail Slot setting).

- Right click on the Peglock DIN Rail Attachment part in the bottom left corner and click Export…

- Choose STL or 3MF as the format, adjust the other settings as you see fit, and click Export
