This is a minimalistic hinge made with alternating wedge-shaped segments.

The shaft is fused with the segments on one side and the segments on the other side are printed around it in-place. I recommend to use an odd number of segments, otherwise the end segment of the hinge can fall off, although it would still be functional when mounted.

This is an OpenSCAD script to generate an STL of the hinge. Install OpenSCAD, download the script file, adjust the parameters according to your needs, then press F5, F6, F7 (in that order) to export the STL file.

Adjustable parameters:

• hinge thickness
• hinge radius/width
• segment count
• segment size
• number of screws per segment
• screw hole and pocket size
• shaft diameter
• tolerance

Printing tips:

• Increase the shell thickness (number of perimeters, top and bottom layers) for robustness.
• For a cleaner overhang on the bottom part:
  • Print inner perimeters before outer perimeters.
  • Print with a smaller layer height.
  • Make sure there is no z-seam on the overhang or its edge.
• No support needed.
• The segments may need to be broken free, it will loosen a little after some use.
• Do a test print to check the tolerances, and adjust as necessary. Increase the number if the hinge does not move (and cannot be boken free), or decrease if it's too loose.
