Nippers are probably recommended. There is one support built into the model under the latch that needs to be carefully clipped.

All built in OpenSCAD. The shape on the body of the stitch marker (star, moon, heart) is easily customizeable. Just copy either star.scad, moon.scad, or heart.scad, name the resulting file as you wish, and alter the logic in the file to make the shape you want. The body of the "stitch_marker(through=true) {...}" block should be a 2d shape small enough to fit on the body of the stitch marker. The result will be a stitch marker with the given shape "cut out" of the body of the stitch marker.
