This is a simple box to keep 10 sets of FilaScope disks organized.
This may be already a bit outdated, as Steve released a new and improved swatch-like test method, but may be handy for those (like me) who already printed some disk test sets.
There are four objects:
- The cover, which serves also as a tray. The disks stand there upright, mostly uncovered and easy to pick.
- The base, that covers most of the disks.
- A modifier for the cover holes. I found that ironing the holes and top cover works nicely, but if you set ironing to “topmost layer” won't iron the holes, and if you set ironing to “all top layers” will iron more than needed.
- A modifier for the base pins. They work better when printed at 100% infill (to avoid breakage at the stress layer).
The box can be magnetizable by using the cover/tray hole modifiers as negative volumes for the base, to remove the pins and “drill” a hole, setting it to the appropriate height. Diameter of the hole/pin is 6mm (with some clearance in the holes), and tray holes (and pins) are 1.5mm deep/tall.
I suggest printing the first layers (up to 0.8mm height or so) in a transparent filament, and so you can see the empty/full slots in the boxes.
I have included the 3mf files for PrusaSlicer that I used to print the specimens in the pictures. Note that I use a 0.6mm nozzle, so your ironing settings may vary.
Closing is achieved by a simple pin/hole friction fit. This likely will get looser with time, but I don't think the boxes will be open that often. If that's not your case, I suggest magnetizing the box.
This has been created with the version 2 of my OpenSCAD dice box, which is currently in the works. That is, it cannot be created (yet) with the published model of the box, which doesn't feature the “coin”/prism dice type, nor the pin option, nor the magnet/pin modifier generator, nor the base notches, nor the hollow part options... When I update the dice box, I'll include the preset used to create this one.
FWIW, the FilaScope featured in the pictures is not the original, but my Screw-on FilaScope remix/remake.
