This model serves as a combined mount for the Pi Zero 2W and an attached Pi Cam. The mount can be securely attached to the Y axis end using two screws, following the nozzle on every layer without interfering with any printer parts. Printer and power can be plugged in, making it a perfect host for OctoPrint with the original firmware or Klipper.
Requirements
- 2 x 16mm M3 screws (these replace the original Ender screws)
- 1 x Pi Zero case cover (from https://www.printables.com/model/267909-raspberry-pi-zero-zero-2-case-snapfit-screwless-in)
- 1 x Pi Zero 2W (+SD card)
- 1 x Pi Camera (I used the cheap 5MP variant, alternatives must have the same size to fit the mount)
- 1 x Pi Camera cable (around 200mm are enough, should be flexible)
- 1 x Power supply for the Pi Zero
- 1x USB Micro-B to C cable to attach the printer
- 1 x Printed model (I recommend PETG as PLA might sag over time due to heat from bed and toolhead, print orientation as shown in picture with tree supports on build plate)
Installation
- Place the Pi into the mount, attach the cable to the camera and place the camera into the mount as well. You can now place the cable behind the camera and attach it to the Pi Zero. If you find a good 180° cable somewhere please let me know, currently this is the best solution I was able to find using a normal cable.
- Put a cover on and put in your SD card.
- Attach the mount to the printer. Simply remove the two screws holding the wheel cover, put the mount on top of it and put the longer 16mm screws in. Make sure they are secure without scratching anything! It fits perfectly for me, but you have to ensure that your printer has the same dimensions.
- Attach the printer to the upper port of the Pi using the Micro-B to C cable.
- Plug in the power supply.
This is my second version of the mount. The first version had the camera in original rotation, but forced me to bend to cable in weird ways to solve the 180° rotation. I'm open for any kind of feedback to improve the model.
