Summary
Mounts for scope protector disks (e.g. polycarbonate) to be used e.g. for airsoft. The inserted disks will need to be between 22.5mm-26mm in diameter, required thickness for sufficient protection depends on your field limits & quality of material.
Designed for the Evolution Gear ROMEO 4T (Sig ROMEO4T-PRO clone). It slots into the front lens cover mount.
This is intended to be printed in flexible material (e.g. TPU 95A) to both improve impact resistance & allow it to be easily replaceable. Printing it in a rigid material may require destroying the mount to remove it.
Ignore the version numbers, there is no relevant difference.
To install:
- Remove front lenscover & ring
- Reattach the aluminium screw insert (leaving the ~2.5mm gap)
- Insert polycarbonate disk into the printed mount (use a paper towel or similar to avoid leaving prints on the inside face)
- Slide printed pount + polycarbonate in place until it locks into the 2.5mm gap
To uninstall:
- Lightly squeeze TPU ring & screw it & the metal ring out of the sight
- Peel the TPU ring & PC disk of the metal (this may require some leverage using a knife, screwdriver, sturdy fingernails, ...)
- Reassemble original configuration
Polycarbonate notes: I am using 4mm Lexan Exell D ( https://ff.sabic.eu/uploads/resources/LEXAN_EXELL_D_DATASHEET_2021.pdf ), cut to 24.2mm disk using my Ender3-turned-CNCmill. I tested this against 3 shots (6mm, 0.25g, 0.95-1.05J) @ <5cm distance & >80° angle, sight mounted to an airsoft rifle & placed against a solid backstop). This lead to minimal deformations (see the last two images), with the sight remaining fully usable. This is probably overkill for my usecase but may be useful as a baseline for anyone building their own solution.
