Does a Raspberry Pi 5B fit in a Raspberry Pi 3B case?

Short answer: No.

Long answer: Sort of :)

You might have realized that the LAN and USB connections are swapped around on the Raspberry Pi 5B when compared to the Raspberry Pi 4B. This piqued my interest, as this is now the same as on the Raspberry Pi 3B.

So, does the Pi 5B fit in the Pi 3B case? No, not yet! The Pi 5B PC Board is much thicker, so you have to take a lot off the underside of the L-shaped stoppers in the case on both sides of the SD slot. The SD slot brim on the inside also needs to go. The power button of the Pi 5B presents another challenge. It is right there where the L-shaped stopper is. Most of the L-shaped stopper needs to be taken off. Make sure to leave the small horizontal piece of the L-shaped stopper to keep the PCB in place! Carefully make a hole for the 3mm power button that you printed.

Take a bit off the top of the SD slot to prevent the card from getting stuck. The top part of the Pi 3B case clip needs to be trimmed to make space for the active cooler of the Pi 5B.

The white side cover needs some attention to accommodate for the different layout of the ports. Lastly, put the printed cover in the round hole of the Pi 3B audio connector.
