Summary

I got myself another PS1 to modify with a disc drive emulator, it arrived without a cover for the parallel port. I searched around for a design that could be printed as a replacement, the designs out there either do not fit or fit very badly. The shape of the cover isn't a simple rectangle as many people have designed for this. A simple rectangle shape will not fit properly on the Playstation. It has rounded edges along with the fact that the cover isn't a simple flat shape. This has a functional latch that is as fiddley as the original. It is not an exact copy of the original cover as to make it more suitable for printing. Trying to print the latch as it is on the original is much to weak, so it had to be different. I usually like to model things as original and a printable version. In this case I did not keep the original design.

Any cover fitment issues in the photos is due to the PS1 shell being cracked and a little out of shape. The top shell required some heavy repair. It was almost beyond repair.

It needs printing in an upright position for the required strength (the orientation it would be when fitted to a Playstation). It does take longer to print it this way than other ways such as face down. I've tried printing in all different ways and this way is the only way that works without it snapping in half while using it.

I've only tried PLA so far and I think PETG would be a better option. It would be stronger for sure.
